| ICE CREAM, COOKIES, AND MORE COMING TO DOWNTOWN WILKES-BARRE AS BLUE CHIP GOURMET SIGNS LEASE AGREEMENT AT UNIVERSITY CORNERS WILKES-BARRE, PA – South Main Street Redevelopment announced that former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguin Dennis Bonvie has signed a lease agreement for 1,559 square feet of space at 78 South Main Street in order to open a Blue Chip Gourmet cafe at Downtown Wilkes-Barre’s University Corners mixed-use development. The Blue Chip Cookie Company, a leader in the fast-casual dining segment, is an Ohio-based national franchise with locations across the United States. Downtown Wilkes-Barre’s new Blue Chip Gourmet store, to be located at the corner of South Main and East Northampton Streets, will feature Blue Chip’s famously delicious fresh-baked cookies, together with Blue Chip Ice Cream, Gelato, Sorbetto, gourmet Blue Chip Coffee drinks, and light-fare breakfast and lunch items. Blue Chip first became famous for its gourmet cookies – such as its pioneering “white chocolate chip with macadamia nut” recipe. Today, Blue Chip Gourmet looks forward to bringing its “YUMMalicious” experience – including excellence in taste, premium top quality products, and a warm atmosphere – to Downtown Wilkes-Barre. Dennis Bonvie said “I have been looking for the right opportunity to invest in the community that invested in me over the past nine years. I believe in the direction that the Mayor, Tom Leighton, and the Chamber are moving. Downtown Wilkes-Barre has undergone a total transformation since my arrival back in 1999. We look forward to looking with both the City and the Chamber in this project.” Chip Gourmet’s specialty gourmet dessert items make it a store for all seasons and times, and help to fill an important niche in the center’s offerings. We are thrilled to have them join Januzzi’s in providing an ever-expanding range of offerings to Downtown theatergoers and consumers.” Mayor Tom Leighton welcomed the announcement, stating that “Blue Chip Gourmet is a welcome addition to the revival of Downtown Wilkes-Barre; not only does it provides Downtown’s visitors, workers, and residents yet another retail store to enjoy, but it also demonstrates that, despite a challenging economy, private investors continue to see opportunities in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.” Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber President Todd Vonderheid noted: “We’ve said for some time that you’re missing something if you’re not visiting Downtown Wilkes-Barre. Blue Chip Gourmet brings one more reason why our belief is more well-founded than ever.” Bonvie noted that construction of the new University Corners store is expected to begin immediately; an opening is expected to be the weekend of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. |
